- SI offers free, out-of-class review sessions for challenging entry-level STEM and Business courses.
- Sessions are led by SI Leaders—successful students who previously completed the course.
Who are SI Leaders?
- SI Leaders are not Teaching Assistants. They don’t grade assignments or teach new material.

- They are paid a stipend by the Academic Learning & Tutoring Center (ALTC).
What is the Hiring Process for SI Leaders?
- SI Leaders are hired in late April for Fall and late November for Spring. Inform ALTC early if you need a leader.
- Faculty can nominate students, but the final hiring decision is made by the SI program coordinator.
What are Faculty Expectations?
- No paperwork is required after an SI Leader is assigned.
- SI Leaders may reach out for guidance and to discuss session progress.
- Practice tests created by SI Leaders should be approved by faculty.
- SI Leaders attend classes but may skip test/exam days.
Additional Information:
- SI sessions end the last week of classes. Optional sessions may be offered during exams.

A Sample Syllabus Statement
The following academic support is offered through the Academic Learning & Tutoring Center (https://altc.tulane.edu/).
Tutoring: You can schedule a 1:1 tutoring appointment with a peer tutor at https://web.penjiapp.com/schools/tulane.
To get the most out of your tutoring appointment:
- Complete assignments ahead of time and come prepared with specific questions or problems.
- Tutors will walk you through a concept or problem and help you discover the answer. They can also help you improve your study skills and take better notes.
- Tutors will not assist with homework, or any assignment that will be graded or evaluated.
Tutors cannot fill you in on a week (or semester’s) worth of information in 30 minutes. They are not a replacement for attending class and doing the assigned work.
Supplemental Instruction: Each week, SI Leaders offer two 1-hour sessions to review and extend the class material through collaborative learning and exploration. If your course has an SI Leader assigned to it, they will contact you in class and through your course Canvas Page. They also attend the class with you and will be happy to answer questions about the program. You can find the master schedule of SI sessions at https://altc.tulane.edu/programs/supplemental-instruction.
Writing Coaching: You can schedule a writing consultation with one of our Writing Specialists at https://web.penjiapp.com/schools/tulane.
